Thassos island is the most northerly of all the Greek islands and can be found in the Aegean Sea nestled between the Halkidiki Peninsular and Kavala. Conveniently, it is only 6 kilometres away from the nearest port on the mainland.
Potos is a bustling seaside village on the sunny south side of Thassos and offers the best of all worlds. From organised Blue Flag beaches with water sports at Pefkari, to vast expanses of sand to claim as your own between the main Potos beach and San Antonio. The waterfront hosts a myriad of bars, cafes, taverns and restaurants, all open from morning till the next morning! Inside the village you will find all the services you need from car rental to supermarkets, boutiques, gift shops, ice cream parlours, lunar park, chemists, gas stations and much, much more…..
There are lots of activities to be enjoyed, chill out on a boat trip which will take you to hidden coves and give you another view of Thassos. Scuba diving is a rapidly growing sport in the area and the diving schools cater for all levels of diver from rank amateur to professionals. Remember Thassos has more to offer than just the pristine sea and beaches, the interior of the island is breathtaking with majestic mountains and ancient forests interlaced with streams and waterfalls. There are several ways to enjoy the interior of Thassos – an organized jeep excursion (‘safari’), hiking and there are even some organised mountain bike tours.
Potos is only 3 kilometres from Limenaria the second largest town on the island after the capital Limenas, also known as Thassos Town.
Other places of note on the south side of Thassos are the cliff-edge Archangel Michael monastery, Aliki which bears testament to the importance of the unique Thassos white marble, dozens of beaches from the dazzling white sands of Psilli Ammos where the party never ends to the more laid back Salonikios beach and not forgetting the awe inspiring Giola, a pool hewn out of the rocks by Mother Nature.
